AJSTID is a multi-disciplinary and refereed international journal on science, technology, innovation and development in Africa and other low-income countries. It was established in appreciation of the role and importance of innovation in the development processes and the recognition of the relative absence of research in this area in Africa. AJSTID encourages research along the following broad areas:
- The role of science, technology and innovation in the processes of industrial growth and development.
- The emergence and the making of innovation systems in the context of broader socio-economic development.
- Exploring the inclusion of innovation and knowledge in sub-national, regional, global and local innovation networks and cross border integration processes in Africa.
- Research on the interaction among governments, industries, businesses, universities and communities in the use and application of science, technology and innovation policies; particularly comparative works that have implications for all developing economies.
- Critiques of science, technology and innovation policies and their applications in Africa.
- Exploring co-evolutions, broad-based innovations and indigenous knowledge systems in the context of African development.
AJSTID will solicit submissions in these research areas from micro-empirical to the meta-theoretical levels.
Objectives
AJSTID targets industrialists, technologists, policy-makers academics communities with interests generally on science, technology and innovation processes relating to industrial, economic, and social development in Africa and the developing world. AJSTID will publish research papers that will benefit policymakers at national and international levels, businesses, industries, research institutions, civil society organisations and development agencies. The journal fosters research and policy options that can impact significantly on decision making at various levels, including governments, universities and industries. AJSTID contributes knowledge that could influence STI policies in Africa and other developing countries.

AJSTID targets the following groups: the academic community including research students, policy makers at various levels, businesses and industries as well the civil society.
Contents
AJSTID publishes empirically and theoretically oriented articles based on original research, research notes, book reviews and commentaries. The journal encourages comparative studies of regions, countries or sectors across countries. The journal periodically publishes special editions on specific themes by inviting guest editors.

AJSTID covers a wide range of issues and topics relating to science, technology, innovation and development in Africa and the rest of the developing world. Some of the indicative themes include:
